Temecula Music Fest 2009 announces call for entries to the Battle of the Bands

The Temecula Music Fest announced today that is seeking music and dance artists interested in performing at the 2009 Temecula Music Fest. Interested artists can enter the battle of the bands being held at The Merc in Old Town Temecula on Friday nights starting November 7 2008. Our goal is to find the finest performers of original music in Southern California and to put them on stage at the Temecula Music Fest in May 2009.

We will have two categories this year, one for Adult bands (more than 50% of the band or more being over 18) and one for Teen bands (more than 50% of the band being under 18). Interested performers can be soloists, duets, trios, rock bands, hip-hop MC’s/groups or any other type of music or dance group. Winners of each category get a digital multi track recording and 6 hours of mixing and mastering of their final performance or a DVD in the case of a dance group. In addition to the recording with a value of over $500, winners will receive $250 cash and a prime spot on one night of the 2009 festival; amongst other prizes to be given away during the preliminary and semi final rounds.

“This is a chance for the best music and dance talents in the So Cal area to battle it out. We want to showcase the finest performers possible at the Temecula Music Fest, and what better way to find them than a Battle of the Bands where performers are judged on the merits of the music they write and how they perform it, than to have a popularity contest where the band with the most friends wins. We want to see great songwriting, a strong stage presence and a professional attitude” explained festival director Bill Gould, “many standout bands from the Battle will get spots on the festival during the day or on the second stage, consider the preliminary round a live audition.”

Performer Judging Criteria

Bands will be judged on a 100 point system by three judges involved in different aspects of the music business who will tell you what they think directly after your 15 to 18 minute performance.

10% of the 100 points are based on audience response where each ticket holder to the BOTB will receive a ballot where they will be asked to vote for the top two bands of the night. The top vote getter will receive 10 points and the 2nd place will get 5 points.

The judged categories will be:

PROFESSIONALISM (30 points): Arrive on time, Kept to time limit, Prepared to play

PERFORMANCE (30 points): Crowd interaction, Stage presence/show, Ability to hold the crowds interest

MUSICANSHIP (30 points): Vocal Performance, Instrument performance, Song writing

CROWD RESPONSE (10 points): Secret ballot choosing the top 2 bands of the night.

Top Prize

There is no cost to the bands to enter, and the 1st place winners of both the adult and youth categories will win:
A Live digital multi-track recording of their set at the finals (includes 6 hours of mixing/mastering); $250 cash;  a prime spot on the main stage at the 2009 Temecula Music Fest on May 15, 16 or 17 2009, $25 gift certificate to The Cart at the Temecula Library, lifetime link from the FullValueREVIEW.com to your webpage and other free gifts from festival and Battle sponsors.

Preliminary Round 1 (one band moves on to semi finals from each night)
Adult Bands - 4 slots each night available on Nov 7, 14, 21 and Dec 5
Teen Bands - 4 slots each night available on Dec 12, 19 Jan 2 and 9

Preliminary Round 2 (one band moves on to semi finals from each night)
Adult Bands – 4 slots each night available on Jan 30, Feb 6, 13 and 20
Teen Bands – 4 slots each night available on Feb 27, March 6, 13 and 20

Semi Finals Round 1 (Top band from both semi finals in each category battle for first place on April 17)
Adults - Jan 16
Teens - Jan 23

Semi Finals Round 2 (Top band from both semi finals in each category battle for first place on April 17)
Adult – March 27
Teen – April 3

Finals (top 2 adult and teen bands from each semi final night battle each other for first place!)
