Proposition 2
There is a ranch in Menifee... Norco Ranch Briggs Rd that was used in an undercover investigation that is part of the tv ads that promote a yes vote. I am torn over this, because while you can't argue that the practices and conditions are cruel... I don't think bigger cages makes it less cruel.
We can't really apply animal cruelty standards to food processors. These aren't pets... and all meat eaters have to look at their own choices to really have an impact, or they'll just move their facility to Mexico and we won't get to control any of the practices.
Vegan would be one answer. Animal cruelty standards and food producers doesn't make sense. I'm much more concerned about the genetic and drug practices on our food sources than the cage sizes. If every home had the right to a half a dozen chickens in conjunction with this then I'd be more prone to care where my eggs come from. In lieu of that..where will our eggs come from to meet the demand for the right price of eggs.
I think a better protest would be the consumer buying the right brand of eggs. Tell your friends and don't buy Eggland eggs. I don't like more laws...that chip away at issues. Just be a more aware consumer. Just my opinion.

Nov 2008 Initiatives - Prop 4
I think they really worked hard to address the opposition of safety while still maintaining parental rights. I know from experience how hard this is on teens and their parents and families should be given the first shot at providing the support a child needs. It's especially at this time of fear and vulnerability that children need an intimate support team... not outside intervention.
By allowing for circumstances that include other relatives or adults, I think it's a great compromise.

RE: Nov 2008 Initiatives - Prop 7
I'm always skeptical about things that odd bedfellows agree on, and odd bedfellows want to see this initiative defeated...as in both parties and the utility companies.
“The measure requires all California utilities to generate at least half their power from alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, biomass and geothermal by 2025, well above the 33 percent level Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to see by 2020. Utilities currently must reach a 20 percent goal by 2010."
Prop 7 will help create over 370,000 new prevailing wage jobs
Prop 7 prohibits the utilities from passing on their penalty costs to consumers if they fail to meet renewable energy standards
Prop 7 is guaranteed to never add more than 3% per year to consumer electricity bills.
It is a lengthy initiative...over 40 pages, but it does seem that Public Utilities are not going to develop new sources without mandates...
Any one have any thoughts on this?

| Proposition 2 | By Mieke Tankink on Nov 03 2008 at 7:47 AM |
| This is so ridiculous..are we saying we want to find a more humane way to raise animals for food and slaughter? On the farm they would say...'don't name them'. If you care about the animal, then fight for hunting rights and the right to raise animals at home for slaughter. If you care about the health, then fight the FDA about cloning and steroids and all the stuff they do to make fatter chickens. But this... bigger cages so the doomed animal can stand up and turn around? How do you think the animal feels about not having the right to choose it's occupation or being born into a life of slavery. Maybe we should fight for the chickens right to choose. |

| Proposition 7 - VOTE YES | By Mieke Tankink on Nov 03 2008 at 7:48 AM |
| Absolutely....this is what the initiative will do that the utility companies don't like. This forces public utility companies to abide by the same requirements as private energy companies.... Shall government-owned utilities be required to generate 20% of their electricity from renewable energy by 2010, a standard currently applicable to private electrical corporations? Shall all utilities be required to generate 40% by 2020 and 50% by 2025? VOTE YES |

| Please let's pass Prop 8. I don't have any problem with gay rights through the courts and legislation. I have a MAJOR problem that a court made this change AGAINST the wishes of the voters... and they changed the meaning of marriage in our constitution. We need to put it back. You can't change the definition of marriage for everyone else.. where are our rights...those of us who believe in civil liberty but NO infringment on us. California Education code requires our children are taught about marriage and they won't stop with just a mention of it. It will require 'TOO MUCH INFORMATION' to our kids. |

| I see a LOT of questions as to why the Teachers Union spent a huge amount of their members (teachers) due on he campaign against Prop 8. Some from teachers themselves. Why no responses ???? |
|
| RE: Nov 2008 Initiatives | By Mieke Tankink on Nov 03 2008 at 7:51 AM |
| I hope it's because teachers have no voice in how their union spends their money.... Even if it's anonymous, I would hope that teachers will protest this. |

| Prop 12 pays for itself | By Unknown on Nov 04 2008 at 7:24 AM |
| Extending more bonds to expand the Cal-Vet program. This has been in place a long time with very few glitches. It pays for itself, unlike other bond issues. | |
| NO on PROP 10 | By Unknown on Nov 04 2008 at 10:02 AM |
| No on 10! League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, Union of Concerned Scientists, Natural Resources Defense Council and Environment California and 40 daily newspapers all OPPOSE Prop 10. Air Resources Board Chair Mary Nichols says vote No, and points out that NOTHING in PROP 10 stops interstate trucking companies from moving their trucks to another state after they collect the $50,000 handout. No on 10 - Don't cut our schools to make a Texas oil tycoon richer. visit: www.stopprop10.org | |
