According to an article in the Wall Street Journal today, Salvia Divinorum (pictured) is a hallucinogenic plant that’s apparently all the rage these days.
Videos of people trying the herb are spreading on YouTube; states are moving to criminalize it; and researchers are trying to understand its workings to see if salvia, native to Mexico, could be the basis of medicines for pain or psychiatric problems.
Salvia, a relative of flowering sages enjoyed by many gardeners, is the most powerful natural hallucinogen known — almost as strong as LSD, experts say.
What can parents do? Check your home computers history for searches involving Salvia. Check out the youtube videos yourselves and talk to your kids about the latest drugs their friends are talking about.
