Prepare to meet ROVER, Riverside County’s first mobile voter education, outreach, and early voting venue. ROVER, an acronym for Registration, Outreach, Voting, and Education Resource, is currently in production and when completed, will allow the Registrar of Voters to bring the County’s popular “Early Voting” program to areas of the County not presently served by its three static mall locations. Prior to it’s full service roll out in 2006, ROVER will be making a limited use debut in support of the November 8, 2005 Consolidated Special Statewide Election. The schedule will be posted in late September at the Riverside County Registrar of Voter's website.
In addition to its role as a mobile “Early Voting” venue, ROVER will also serve as a traveling classroom for community outreach and voter education. In the event of a disaster or emergency impacting Election Day, ROVER can be deployed to serve as an emergency polling place as well.
ROVER began life as a grant proposal submission to Riverside County’s Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee and was subsequently selected for sponsorship by the Morongo Band of Mission Indians. The grant funds were accepted by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors in 2005.
